Rebecca’s Amazing Life
Rebecca Blackmon was born January 16, 1931, in Volt, Texas. She was one of seven children born to the union of Walter and Rachel Gage. Rebecca and her family grew up in Beaumont, Texas. Rebecca graduated from Charlton-Pollard High School. While living in Beaumont, she met and married Gilbert Williams. This union was blessed with four children: Jennifer, Gwendolyn (Gwen), Cynthia, and Gilbert III, who preceded her in death. In 1950, Rebecca moved with her family to San Francisco, California. There she met and married Theopolis “Theo” Blackmon in May 1972. She worked at Oak Knoll Hospital in Oakland and at Harold D. Chope Community Hospital. She retired as a Surgical Supply Technician from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto. While living in San Jose, Rebecca initially attended St. Paul Baptist Church, but later joined Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she became an active member. At Emmanuel, she faithfully served in the Music Ministry—Adult Choir and Mass Choir—Deeper in the Word, Sunday School, and the dedicated senior ministry, the Golden Harvesters. Rebecca had plenty of substance—and plenty of style to match. She dressed with meticulous care, never stepping out without the perfect hat to top off her outfit. She was soft-spoken, caring, thoughtful, and strong-minded, with a spirited side that could make her a firecracker at times. An excellent cook, she shared her homemade head cheese with friends and family every holiday season. Rebecca was an avid seamstress who loved staying on the go. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, and cooking. When she was not browsing the shops, she could often be found diligently working through her puzzle books. The Lord called Rebecca into His presence on September 12, 2026. There, she was reunited with the loved ones who preceded her in death: her husband, Theopolis “Theo” Blackmon; her parents, Walter and Rachel Gage; her sisters, Mary Wall and Ruthie Mae Gage; her brothers, Walter Gage Jr., Raymond, Floyd, and Claude Gage; her son, Gilbert Williams III; her son-in-law, Allen Todd; and her great-granddaughter, Azhia Tatiyana Williams. Rebecca will be forever remembered by her devoted daughters, Jennifer Foster-Jones (Harold), Gwendolyn Todd, and Cynthia Williams; her grandchildren, Acquella Todd and Mariko Todd of San Jose, California; Dr. Allen Todd II of Memphis, Tennessee; Rachel Foster of Brentwood, California; Arthur Foster of Sacramento, California; Charles Williams of San Jose, California; Gilbert Williams IV (Jennifer) of Jacksonville, Florida; and Angela Williams-Fluellen (Phillip) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and her daughter-in-law, Nedith Williams of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Left to cherish Rebecca’s memory are her great-grandchildren: Eurada McIntyre; Odessa Inez, Simone Chambliss-Woodson (Keinan); Julian Chambliss; Jeremiah Chambliss (Jennifer); Lanae and Dallas Foster; Kyle and Shawnte Williams; Anthony Todd-Hernandez; Aaron and Aleya Todd Nunnally; Marley, Aja, and Freyja Fluellen; and Kaylen and Calean Williams. She is also survived by her great-great-granddaughter, Emiko Nguyen-McIntyre. Rebecca’s memory will be treasured by her two sisters, Geraldine Burris (Larry) of McAlester, Oklahoma, and Denita Kelly of Port Arthur, Texas; her brother, Paul Gage (Nakethia) of Port Arthur, Texas; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
