This is Jamilah. Aka OOH JAM MAHIR’s big sister
I just want to say, on behalf of our brother Mahir, this is one of the most painful things our family has ever experienced. Some of you may not know his family personally, but we were always present in his life and loved him deeply.
What many may not understand is that at the tender age of 16, we began losing the Mahir many people once knew. Recreational marijuana use and the struggles that can come with it can impact a person's mental health, behavior, relationships, and sense of self.
For years, we cried, struggled in disbelief, and tried everything we could to bring him back to the person we remembered. That became the fight of our lives.
Over time, we learned to accept him through his lifestyle, his struggles, his ups and downs, because at the end of the day, we were just grateful to still have him with us.
Please understand that as his immediate family, this loss is overwhelming in ways difficult to explain. We are grieving not only his passing, but the years of watching someone we loved slowly change before our eyes. We lost pieces of him long before we lost him physically, and now we are facing that pain all over again.
We ask for understanding, compassion, and privacy as we process this devastating loss.
