Lucious Paul Ricks passed away peacefully on the morning of August 11, 2025,
surrounded by family. Lucious was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, on August 5,
1958, to the late John and Evelyn Ricks. He was the sixth child born to that
union.
Lucious relocated to Redwood City, California. He became well known in his
community. Lucious was known for his charismatic and rambunctious
personality. He was kind and humorous and everyone gravitated to that.
Lucious was a proud Pawpaw to his grandchildren. And no one baked a pound
cake, as special as “Pawpaw”
, he would say don’t forget the five eggs and bake
with love.
Lucious met the love of his life and dedicated himself to his family. Together Lucious
and his wife Bertha created a home, where friends and family, all knew they were
welcome. His garage, or the “Man Cave” as it was known, hosted some of the best
game days.
Lucious held many jobs. He spent many years working for Midas Auto Repair
Shop, eventually parting ways and working as an independent mechanic. He
enjoyed repairing and refurbishing old school cars in his spare time.
Lucious was loved, honored, and respected by everyone, everywhere. He was
a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and
friend.
Lucious is survived by his beloved wife Bertha Ricks, his fourteen children;
seven daughters, Paula, Kiesia, Natasha, Aimee, Nisa, Shana, and Bridget.
And seven sons; Rodney, David, Paul, Michael, Shawn, DaMar, and Lorenzo.
He also leaves behind his three sisters, Peggy, Barbara, and Gwen. His brother
Lee; thirty-one grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lucious was preceded in death by his parents John and Evelyn Ricks. His
siblings, Edward Brown, John L. Ricks Jr., Allan Dexter Ricks, and Helen Ricks
Robinson.
