Joseph Batise Guillory

Joseph Batise Guillory, affectionately known as JB, Joe B, Redtop in his younger years, and Pops to his grandchildren, passed away on August 15, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born in Basile, Louisiana, to the late Benjamin and Espaze Guillory. Joseph was raised in the Catholic faith, with his mother's strong faith being an important part of his upbringing.

Joseph spent his early years in Louisiana before moving with his family to Texas and later California. He was hardworking, knowledgeable, strong-willed, and honest, never afraid to tell you the truth. His family and friends knew they could always count on his honesty, wisdom, and genuine care for others.

In December 1964, Joseph married Betty Jo Jones. Their story began years earlier when they grew up on neighboring streets, though they did not officially meet until Betty was in high school through their mutual friend, Rosemary. He was a loving and supporting husband to Betty. He supported her many business adventures and embraced every new journey they shared together. Together they built a life centered around love and family.

Joseph was a talented chef who worked for Amtrak as well as several high-in local restaurants before retiring. Cooking was more than a career for Joseph; it was a lifelong passion and one of the ways he showed love to the people around him. He took great pride in his cooking and was known for the knowledge and skill he brought to the kitchen. He enjoyed teaching others how to cook and passing down what he knew. His kitchen was his place, and those who knew him well knew there was a time and place for everything including when to stay out of the kitchen.

Joseph proudly served in the United States Army as a chef during the Vietnam War. He spent time living in Lawton, Oklahoma, during his service.

Joseph was a wonderful provider, loving husband and father, and a source of wisdom to many. His porch became a place where people could sit, talk, and listen to his advice. He loved fishing and seemed to know every place worth casting a line. He also enjoyed camping, family-orientated outdoor activities, cars, his pipe and Missy. He was a proud Pittsburgh Steelers fan and knew his team well.

Joseph leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty Jo; his children; Theresa (Allen), Joseph (Linda), Wendy and Missy (beloved dog); his grandchildren; Jonathan, Sherlynn, Allen, Isaiah, Brett, Ashley (Baden) and Ethan; his great grandchildren; Harmony, Lyric, Allen, Christopher and Charlie who all lovingly knew him as Pops; his sister, Delores and plethora of extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Espaze Guillory, and his siblings, Emily, Thomas, and Max.

Joseph leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, hard work, laughter, and family. His cooking, his porch wisdom, his fishing trips, and the memories he created will live on through those who loved him.

Joseph will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
